The Sunday Mirror: Spy Love You, Keeley

Spy Love You, Keeley

TV Spooks Keeley Hawes and Matthew Macfadyen break cover for the first time since she walked out on her husband and baby son for her co-star in the BBC1 spy series.

Keeley, 26, and Matthew, 27, laughed and kissed after spending several hours with friends in a London pub. Even a call on her mobile could not prise Keeley, who plays agent Zoe Reynolds, away from Matthew — her MI5 boss.

“They looked so in love and very comfortable with each other,” said one onlooker. “They seemed oblivious to anyone else.” The couple moved on from the Prince Albert pub in Maida Vale to the restaurant next door before heading back to Matthew’s nearby North London home.

Meanwhile her 20-month-old son Myles was being cared for 30 miles away in Esher, Surrey, by her estranged husband Spencer McCallum, a cartoon designer.

They had only been married five months when Keeley left. He wished her luck but pointedly added: “I’m just an average Joe Bloggs, all this is my wife’s nightmare.”

Spooks’ stars not so secret affair

Planting a kiss on her forehead, Matthew Macfadyen is clearly besotted with his Spooks co-star Keeley Hawes.

The couple, whose romance ended Miss Hawes’s marriage, displayed their affection as they walked down a London street after a few drinks with friends.

Their relationship began when they met on the set of the BBC spy series and led to 26-year-old Miss Hawes leaving cartoonist Spencer McCallum after just a few months of marriage. They are keeping in touch for the sake of their son Myles, who is not yet two.

The marriage was due to go ahead two years ago but was delayed when the couple discovered that Miss Hawes, who appeared as a young Diana Dors in ITV’s The Blonde Bombshell and in the BBC’s Wives and Daughters, was pregnant.

The abrupt ending of her short marriage was especially surprising in the light of comments she made shortly before she left the marital home in Esher, Surrey. ‘I feel more secure somehow,’ she said.

‘Now if we have a row and I say something silly like, “Right, that’s it. I’m off”, I know that I’m not going anywhere and that we’re staying together.’ However, things changed when Mr Macfadyen, 27, was cast as Miss Hawes’s MI5 boss in the series. It soon became obvious to those working with them that they were attracted to each other.

As they walked near a pub in Maida Vale, North-West London, they constantly held hands and embraced, not even breaking off when Miss Hawes took a call on her mobile phone.

The pair are due to star in a second series of Spooks, in which Miss Hawes plays agent Zoe Reynolds.
