Starting out: Keeley Hawes
{video placeholder}
I was spotted on Oxford Street and I was spotted by someone who asked me if I was a model and that was how I got into modelling, but I had been acting kind of for 10 years previously, at school at Sylvia Young’s and so the spotting bit came sort of post that and I modeled for about a year and i was very bad indeed and I quite happily gave all that up when I got a part in Karaoke, which was Dennis Potter’s last work, so it was all very happily lucky for me.
I kind of chose acting and it chose me ’cause they moved opposite my house, the school, and I’d kind of go by every day and hear them kind of singing, squawking and I’d say to my mom, that sounds really good, but at 9 you just think, that looks much more fun than what I have at school, ‘Can I go there?’, so really it was for that, it wasn’t cause at the age of 8 or 9 I had any aspirations to be anything other than 8 or 9 really but I went and I had a great time, I don’t remember being sort of horribly ambitious or anything, I just knew that I really liked it and I was very very bad at the singing and dancing side of things, but I enjoyed the acting much, much more.
