Keeley cops it for Ashes
Actress Keeley Hawes says she will never be beaten by the critics — despite a savage mauling for her appearance in cop drama Ashes to Ashes which left her in tears.
On the eve of her return to our screens in ITV1 thriller series Identity, Keeley, 34, admits she was “deeply saddened” by people who gave her a verbal kicking over Ashes.
“There were clearly those who felt my character Alex Drake simply shouldn’t have been in the show at all — that it should have remained male-dominated like its predecessor Life on Mars.
“That really hurt — I took the attacks incredibly personally. But, in an odd way, it toughened me up, made me realise there are more important things in life than people who don’t like you in a TV show.
“Mind you,” adds Keeley, who plays fraud-busting cop Martha Lawson in Identity from Monday, “from now on I won’t be seeking out places where I might find criticism of me.”
“I enjoy Twittering but won’t be looking at the internet to see what people think of me and Identity.”
“I’d be asking for trouble if I did that!”
