My breast cancer hell by stunner who plays bombshell

Stunning Keeley Hawes, who plays cancer-stricken Diana Dors in this week’s ITV drama, suffered a terrifying breast cancer ordeal herself.

Keeley, 23, had a lump removed from her left breast when she was just 19. And she went through days of hell as she waited in terror while the growth was analysed.

“I could have kissed the doctor when I heard the lump was benign,” she said. “I was so relieved.”

Keeley — who stars as Diana in Blonde Bombshell tomorrow and Tuesday — found the lump the very first time she examined her own breasts.

The shocking discovery came shortly after her aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Keeley said: “I’d never bothered before. I certainly didn’t think I’d find anything.

“But under my left breast was a small, hard lump.” Keeley’s GP referred her to a clinic, where a surgeon performed a biopsy.

“All the other women were in their 50s or older,” said Keeley.

“I kept thinking, ‘This isn’t really happening to me, I’m too young’.”

Keeley, then a model, was terrified her breast would be removed.

Although it was benign, it could have become cancerous if she had not had it removed so soon.

Keeley put on a stone to play Diana from her teens to her early 30s — filling out in all the right places.

“I felt so much sexier with all those curves,” she said. “But I am all too aware of how important discovering that lump in time was.”
